FORBY® 220LX AC/DC LCD PRO welding machine
Description

Welding machine FORBY® 220LX AC/DC LCD PRO
AC/DC TIG, pulse welding and COLD WELD - for precisely controlled work with aluminium, steel and stainless steel.
FORBY® 220LX AC/DC LCD PRO is a single-phase 230 V inverter welding machine designed for TIG and MMA welding. Welding current of up to 200 A, a 60% duty cycle at 200 A and comprehensive parameter adjustment let you adapt the process to a wide range of repair, fabrication and finishing work.
Why choose this model?
- AC/DC TIG: for aluminium alloys, steel and stainless steel.
- Pulse TIG: more control over the weld pool and heat input.
- MIX AC/DC: combines alternating and direct current phases.
- COLD WELD: a mode of short welding pulses.
- HF and Lift TIG: different arc ignition methods.
- 4.3-inch LCD display: clear presentation of modes and parameters.
- 10 memory slots: for saving frequently used settings.
- EMC board: for reducing electromagnetic interference.
Suitable for workshops, metal fabrication, and pipe and structural welding where process control and a neat weld seam matter.

IGBT inverter technology and EMC board
The machine uses IGBT inverter technology and pulse width modulation (PWM). This system allows power conversion to be controlled electronically and the welding current to be regulated.
Microcontroller (MCU) control and a current feedback circuit help maintain the set parameters. Depending on the selected mode, the machine delivers direct, alternating or pulsed welding current.
What is EMC?
EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) describes the ability of equipment to operate properly in an electromagnetic environment and to limit interference caused to other equipment.
This model is fitted with an EMC board designed to reduce electromagnetic interference.
Welding modes and their purpose
AC TIG - for aluminium and its alloys
The alternating current TIG mode allows welding of aluminium and its alloys. Adjustable AC balance helps balance the oxide cleaning effect and penetration, while AC frequency lets you adapt the arc character to the job.
DC TIG - for steel and stainless steel
The direct current TIG mode is intended for work where precise weld pool control matters. You can choose standard or pulse welding and adjust current upslope, downslope and gas flow time.
MIX AC/DC - mixed TIG mode
This mode alternates between AC and DC welding phases. Adjustable alternation frequency and DC phase share allow further adaptation of the process to the workpiece.
HF and Lift TIG arc ignition
- HF: contactless arc ignition using a high-frequency pulse.
- Lift TIG: the arc is ignited by touching the workpiece with the tungsten electrode and lifting it.
- The manual provides for AC and DC Lift TIG modes.
MMA - welding with coated electrodes
The machine is also designed for stick electrode welding. The manual includes DC MMA, AC MMA and pulse DC MMA modes, as well as Hot Start and Arc Force settings. The main MMA current range according to the rating plate is 10-200 A.

Pulse TIG - more weld pool and heat control
In pulse TIG mode the current alternates between a pulse value and a base value. The higher current phase melts the metal, while the base current phase reduces the energy delivered to the weld pool.
By choosing the right frequency, base current and pulse duty share, you can control the average heat input. This is useful when welding thinner workpieces and for work where the weld seam shape is important.
- DC TIG pulse frequency: 0.5-200 Hz.
- AC TIG pulse frequency: 0.5-10 Hz.
- Pulse duty share: 5-100%.
- Base current setting: according to the selected welding mode.
The result depends on the selected parameters, workpiece preparation, tungsten electrode, shielding gas and welding technique.

4.3-inch LCD display and welding cycle control
The 4.3-inch colour LCD display shows the settings of the selected process. Two knobs and selection buttons let you switch between modes and adjust welding parameters.
- Start, main and crater current: for the start, course and finish of the weld.
- Current upslope and downslope time: 0-5 s.
- Pre-flow gas: 0-1 s.
- Post-flow gas: 0.1-10 s.
- 2T / 4T / 4T MLOGIC: different torch trigger control modes.
- 10 memory slots: for saving and recalling welding settings.
The machine is compatible with a remote control torch or a foot pedal. In pedal mode, the maximum allowed current is set on the front panel and adjusted with the pedal while welding. These remote control accessories are ordered separately.
200 A at 60% duty cycle
The duty cycle indicates what portion of a 10-minute period you can weld at a given current under rated conditions. Values are given according to the machine's rating plate.
| Mode | 60% | 100% |
|---|---|---|
| TIG | 200 A | 141 A |
| MMA | 200 A | 115 A |
60% at 200 A means 6 minutes of welding and 4 minutes of cooling in a 10-minute cycle.
100% duty cycle means continuous operation at the current specified in the table under rated conditions. Free air circulation must be ensured and operating requirements observed.

AC settings for aluminium welding
When welding aluminium, it is important to balance the oxide cleaning effect, penetration and tungsten electrode load. FORBY® 220LX AC/DC LCD PRO allows adjustment of several key alternating current parameters.
- AC frequency 20-250 Hz: changes arc concentration and adapts it to the joint geometry.
- AC balance 20-80%: changes the ratio of positive and negative polarity phases, which determines the cleaning effect and heat distribution.
- Selectable waveform: square, sine or trapezoidal.
- MIX AC/DC: AC and DC phase alternation frequency 0.5-5 Hz, DC phase duration share 5-95%.
Choose AC balance and waveform according to material condition, thickness, the electrode used and the desired result. The aluminium surface must be properly cleaned before welding.

COLD WELD - control of short welding pulses
In DC COLD WELD mode, a short welding duration and pulse repetition frequency are set. This makes it possible to dose energy in short intervals and limit overall heating of the workpiece.
- Welding pulse duration: 1-200 ms.
- Frequency setting range: 0-10 Hz.
- Current setting: 10-200 A.
- Pre- and post-flow gas: adjustable.
The mode can be useful for short welding operations, tack welding parts and working with thinner workpieces.
The name COLD WELD does not mean welding without heat - the metal is melted by an electric arc, and heating is controlled by selecting pulse duration, current and repetition frequency.
Dimensions and workplace preparation
The 12.5 kg machine has a top carrying handle. The control panel and torch and cable connection points are located on the front.
- Machine dimensions: 490 × 225 × 340 mm.
- Package dimensions: 575 × 310 × 395 mm.
- Net weight: 12.5 kg.
- Cooling: fan.

Place the machine on a stable surface, protect it from rain and do not cover the ventilation openings. Ensure free air circulation at the workplace.

FAST AND CONVENIENT GAS HOSE CONNECTION
1. The integrated quick gas coupling allows the gas hose to be connected or disconnected quickly and easily. This shortens machine setup time and makes moving and transporting it easier.
2. A 3-metre pressure-resistant gas hose is included with a quick coupling on the machine side. The optimal hose length gives more freedom to conveniently position the welding machine and gas cylinder at the workplace.
STURDY CONNECTORS DESIGNED FOR HIGHER LOADS
Large 35-50 type welding cable connectors ensure reliable contact and stable current transfer. Properly connected and locked connectors help reduce contact resistance, connector heating and energy losses at the connection points.
Convenient cable connection when working in TIG and MMA modes. Large connectors allow welding cables to be firmly connected and easily disconnected when changing the operating mode or preparing the machine for transport or storage.
FORBY welding equipment focuses on quality, durability and ease of use, which is why the FORBY® TIG 220LX AC/DC LCD PRO uses large 35-50 type cable connectors - a practical solution for everyday welding work.

Important before starting work
- Check the power supply. A single-phase 230 V supply is required. According to the rating plate, the maximum input current is 37 A in TIG and 51 A in MMA mode, so the supply line and its protection must match the machine's load.
- Select the right mode for the material. AC TIG is typically used for aluminium, and DC TIG for steel and stainless steel.
- Prepare the tungsten electrode and torch. The electrode type, diameter, preparation and torch parts must match the selected process and current.
- Ensure shielding gas supply. Check the hoses for leaks and set an argon flow suitable for the job.
- Clean the workpiece. Remove dirt and oxides, and attach the earth clamp to a clean, electrically conductive spot.
- Observe duty cycle and torch load limits. If overheating protection activates, stop welding and let the machine cool down according to the manual.
- Use welding protective equipment. Ensure ventilation, remove flammable materials and protect the equipment from moisture.
